Songs From Home: Art- and Folk-Songs From the Philippines 2011
|
The Philippines comprises a tapestry of cultures, each with its unique musical tradition. Though traditional music is a rich confluence of the country’s indigenous past, it remains distinct from its various colonial influences. Abundant folksongs throughout the archipelago detail rural experiences that capture not only pastoral imagery but Filipino traits as well. Later on, Filipino musicians educated in the western idiom have adapted the style and flavor of these folk songs to more formalized music settings called art songs that, while at par with their foreign counterparts, are still distinguishably Filipino. The CD features an array of some of the Philippines’ premiere composers who arranged the songs for solo recital. These include Ed Nepomuceno, John August Pamintuan, Nilo Alcala, Joy T. Nilo, Priscilla Magdamo and Nhick Ramiro Pacis. (now available on itunes) |

World Day of Choral Singing 2008
Congratulations to all the choirs who participated in our festival at the University of Santo Tomas. It was truly a memorable experience for all 300 choristers as we celebrated a special day of choral singing, where music and talents were shared, old friendships were rekindled, and new friendships were fostered. Thank you for making this event a complete success.
