My favorite 09/28/2009
The concert by the Philippines Madrigal Singers at St. Ignatius Church in New York was by far one of the most touching concerts I have ever watched. After only the first segment, Sestina Madrigali by Claudio Monteverdi, I was already in tears. Then came John Cameron's arrangement of Lux Aeterna from Edward Elgar's Enigma Variations. I remember experiencing this feeling only one other time in my life, when I watched the Vesna Children's Choir in Tolosa Spain 2006. It even made me worry that they might win over the Mads in Arezzo 2007. So far, these are the two choirs that have strongly affected me with their moving performances. The following song was written by Cecile Azarcon and arranged by Chris Borela and was one of my favorites during the Mads concert in NYC. Mads concert in Yale University 2009 09/24/2009

The Saint Louis University (SLU) Glee Club (Baguio City) is the choir to beat in the National Choir Finals of the NAMCYA on 14 Nov 2009. They were the previous winners in the 2005 College Choir National Finals, held every three or four years, so they hold the distinction of being the most recent champion. The SLU Glee Club showed the highest level of artistic and technical performance among all the groups that have won in the regionals so far, including Mindanao and Visayas. Next week and the week following, around 6 more groups will participate in the regional competitions for Manila. Best wishes to all the competitors!
